Learning to speak with an American Accent is like learning another language. You must learn to express your thoughts in a new way, using your mouth, tongue, lips, nose, lungs, and vocal cords to create and manipulate sounds for the benefit of your listener. Our focus is on teaching you to learn a new skill – how to speak with an American Accent. Just as American actors learn to speak with French, German, or British accent, you too can learn another accent. Being able to turn on or turn off your American accent can have a powerful impact on both your personal and professional life:

Introduce yourself once and have your name clearly understood the first time

Speak with confidence in meetings, on the phone, and in conference calls

This is an intensive course. To be successful, it is extremely important that you attend all sessions and complete all assignments. If you attend all class sessions and complete all assignments, you will improve your American English Pronunciation, guaranteed.

This course begins with a 1-hour Online pretest. We will record your voice and analyze your pronunciation of discrete sounds, linking, intonation, word stress, syllable stress, and correct use of pausing and thought groups. Based on your test results, you will receive a speech analysis and a set of personal recommendations and focus areas for your study during the course. Tests will be available starting January 16.

The class will meet for 8 sessions for a total of 24 class hours. Wednesday evening classes will be two hours, from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Saturday classes will be from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. In class sessions include two private consultations. In addition to in-class sessions, expect to have 15-30 minutes of additional, at-home practice per day.

As a part of this course, you will receive an electronic file that contains 24 videos and 70 practice pages to help you improve outside of class. We will give you instruction on which videos and practice pages are most suitable for your individual language needs. These practice materials are yours to keep at the end of the program, so that you can continue to practice even after the class is complete.

Course Tuition:

Early registration: $1495 (Register by January 1, 2010)

Regular registration: $1995

Donuts and coffee will be provided for Saturday classes.

Improvement Guarantee: If you do not improve your American English Pronunciation as a result of this class as indicated by your final test results, you can retake the entire course for free during our next regular session. Our next course is scheduled for April 2010.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations prior to January 1, 2010 will receive a full refund. Cancellations between January 1-15, 2010 will be charged a $400 cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued after January 15, 2010. Ovient reserves the right to cancel the class at anytime due to low enrollment or extenuating circumstances. If we need to cancel the class, you will be offered a full refund.
